CPL Training

The course needed for obtaining a Concealed Pistol License in the State of Michigan is the NRA's Personal Protection In The Home.  This course takes about ten hours and REQUIRES shooting.

Pre-Requisites

Personal Protection In The Home is for students with at least a fundamental knowledge of firearm safety, handling, and shooting.  If you are a first-time shooter, I strongly recommend that you take the NRA Basic Pistol course before taking this course.

Schedule

I schedule Personal Protection In The Home courses for once every four months or sooner as requested.  Currently the next course is scheduled for February 27, 2021.

Private Classes

If you have a group of five or more people who would like to take the course together, you can contact me to schedule a private session of the course.  This course requires a two-hour portion taught by an attorney or law enforcement officer.  Due to the cost of this, I am unable to offer one-on-one instruction for this course at my normal rates.  Students interested in taking this course one-on-one or in groups smaller than 5 should contact me to discuss pricing.

Cost

The cost to attend this course is $85 per attendee.  This includes your textbook and lunch (contact me if you have dietary restrictions)

Due to insurance restrictions I can not provide rental firearms at this time.  I do have non-functional and/or facsimile firearms that will be used as demonstrator units during the classroom portion.

What To Bring

Government-issued photo ID

Eye Protection (prescription eyeglasses with lenses less than 1.5" tall do not meet this requirement)

Ear Protection (earmuffs are recommended instead of ear plugs, but either is acceptable)

Notebook & Pen/Pencil

Handgun (any caliber is acceptable, I encourage you to bring the one you intend to carry)

Ammunition, 200 rounds minimum (LEAVE THIS IN YOUR CAR UNTIL WE GET TO THE RANGE)

Clothing for the weather (the shooting portion of the class will take place outside)

Closed Toed Shoes

Optional:

Baseball Cap

Holster

Ammunition

This page was last updated in February 2021 and I understand that ammunition is currently very expensive to purchase.  The 100 round requirement is set by the NRA and I can not waive or adjust this.  I require you to bring 200 rounds to compensate for potential missed shots that result in having to re-shoot a portion of the final qualification.  At this time none of my wholesale distributors have ammunition available so I am unable to provide any.

Basic Pistol Training

This is a basic course intended for those who are first time shooters, first time gun owners, or would like to become more familiar with handguns.  Owning a firearm is not required for this course, but students who do not own a handgun will be required to rent one.

Pre-Requisites

None.

Schedule

At this time I am not scheduling group sessions of this course.  If there is sufficient demand, I will begin scheduling group sessions.

Private Classes

I offer private classes for one-on-one or small group training, so that the course can be tailored to go at each individual's pace, and students can feel free to ask whatever questions they might have completely judgement-free.  If you already own a handgun, private sessions also allow me to tailor the instruction specifically to the model of handgun you own.

Cost

The cost for this course is $150 per session for up to three attendees, an additional $25 for each additional attendee.

Due to insurance restrictions I cannot provide rental handguns for this class.  I will have non-functional/disabled and/or facsimile firearms used as demonstration units during the classroom portion of the course.
